An island nation steeped in history, Ireland has a place of honor on a lot of bucket lists but is now a top travel destination for 2018. From the friendly locals to the breathtaking landscapes, with rolling hills so green it almost hurts your eyes, Ireland has a fascinating culture just ripe for exploration. Whether you love whiskey, golf or myths, Ireland offers them all with a lyrical charm all its own.

Pop culture trips continue to fascinate this year. From The Game of Thrones filming locations to The Last Jedi, tourists are flocking to see the castles and awe-inspiring natural beauty in person. Lots of people are sentimental about Ireland for its heartbreaking mythology alone, but millennials especially may be drawn to rediscover the land of their ancestors or revisit places they travelled as young children.

Over 60% of international travellers to Ireland come from the UK, although this is in decline. The slack has been picked up by tourists from Germany and Italy, followed by visitors from Spain, Canada, the Netherlands, France, Austria and Finland. Belfast and the Causeway Coast rocketed to the top of Lonely Planets Best in Travel 2018 guide, marking Northern Ireland on the map as an unmatched travel destination for it’s hip neighbourhoods and striking beauty.
