Tree heathers (Philippia trimera) festooned with mosses and old man's beard (Usnea) in the Mukubu Valley (11,500 feet). Heather,which grows into trees 30 to 50 feet high,is one example of unique afro-montane gigantism in a mountain range where the climate varies between high summer in daytime and freezing winter at night.
