In early morning sunlight,a donkey rider passes irrigated fields along the banks of the River Nile near Shaallal arraabia or the 4th Cataract. This stretch of the river will be flooded in 2008 when a huge Arab funded,Chinese-built,hydro-electric dam will be completed. Already,some villages have been re-located to irrigated land far away.

Granaries of a large Dassanech village situated on a bank of the Omo River in Southwest Ethiopia.The villagers food reserves are kept high off the ground in semi circular granaries in case of flooding.They live in the Omo Delta and they practice animal husbandry and fishing as well as agriculture.
