Sunset over Lake Tanganyika.Lake Tanganyika,an immense inland sea set in a long,low,deep trough of the Western Rift,is the biggest lake of Africa's Great Rift Valley system. Its 410-mile-length distinguishes it as the longest freshwater lake in the world. With a depth of 4,710 feet,it is also the world's second deepest; only Lake Baikal in eastern Siberia is deeper.
