The style of wooden boat they use is called a Sese canoe after the Sese islanders who originally made it in Uganda's portion of the lake.Lake Victoria is the second largest freshwater lake in the world.

The Portuguese built the fort at the entrance to the harbour between 1593 and 1598. In the first half of the 20th century,it was used as a prison but it is now a national museum.
